Hello Bookish friends!

TL;DR - Don't miss NY Times Bestselling YA Fantasy Author C.J. Redwine on Monday! We are stocked with ALL of her books! Find complete details on our event page: bookishkop.com/events

Coming through our first year at the King of Prussia Mall we have learned some important things that will help us have even more success in 2022/23. In each newsletter I'll share some observations and facts about our store you may find interesting or unusual.

90% of our customers are tourists. That means they will most likely never visit us again, which is both liberating and a daunting challenge! "We're just here for a lacrosse tournament." "Oh, we're actually visiting from Oregon." "We're attending a nursing conference." It's super helpful to know that the lion's share of our guests will only ever visit us once. That encourages us to double down this year on carrying the best award winning books by all the authors we know personally (1000s), deluxe, commemorative, and anniversary editions of favorites, and a curated selection of new hardcover bestsellers by authors you have asked for. As a result you'll always find a lot of signed copies and some that are literally exclusive only to our store and not even available on Amazon! I used to say that we knew about 50% of the authors on our shelves personally but that percentage goes down every time I buy more books. :)

We operated out of a trailer for 5 years! And we still run a mobile bookstore called Realm Makers Bookstore carrying titles written by authors we know and who join us at the events we attend, carrying exclusively fantasy and science fiction, and exhibiting at book events all over the country. We have an online store and are working diligently to incorporate all the new books and bookish gifts we now sell at our physical store in the King of Prussia Mall. You are welcome to visit while we figure out how to host two brands with one backend. We hope you will pardon our dust. :) store.realmmakers.com

As we strive to grow our local presence I am really looking forward to hosting C.J. Redwine on Monday, June 27 @ 6pm. I know you will absolutely adore her too. On the event page you can order a signed copy even if you can't attend in person. We hope that you will encourage us to bring in more NYT bestselling authors for events at the KOP Mall!

C.J. Redwine is a New York Times bestselling author of speculative fiction, a diehard lover of going to the movies, and a believer in fairytales. She keeps a six-foot tall Loki figure in her office and will argue the merits of Batman vs. Superman with anyone she meets. She once accidentally punched herself in the face on a ride at Disneyland. She doesn’t recommend it.

The first in a YA political fantasy duology about a fierce princess determined to bring lasting peace to her kingdom regardless of the cost to her heart—from C.J. Redwine, the author of the Defiance series and the New York Times bestselling Ravenspire series. Perfect for fans of These Violent Delights, And I Darken, and Ash Princess.

Princess Charis Willowthorn is the dutiful sword of Calera. Raised to be ruthless and cunning, her only goal is to hold her war-torn kingdom together long enough to find a path toward peace with their ancient foe Montevallo, even if the cost is her own heart.

When violence erupts in the castle itself, nearly killing the queen, Charis must assume her mother’s duties and manage both the war and her kingdom. But as an unseen enemy begins sinking Calera’s ships, Charis realizes a threat much greater than Montevallo is coming for her people. So she forms a plan.

By day, she is Calera’s formidable princess intent on forging an alliance with Montevallo. By night, she disguises herself as a smuggler and roams the sea with a trusted group of loyalists, hunting for their new enemies. And through it all, there's the one boy she can't have—who guards her life, but steals her heart.

But her enemies are much closer than Charis realizes, and her heart isn’t the only thing she has left to lose.
